Silverdale Senior Pictures | Ash’s Session at Klahowya

Some sessions have a reason behind them that makes them mean a little more, and Ash's session at Klahowya Trails was one of those. Ash and her family are moving back to the east coast after graduation — her for college and her family returning to where they originally came from after years here with the Navy. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest during her high school years and wanted her senior pictures in a PNW forest specifically because that is what this chapter of her life looks and feels like. The tall trees, the green, the soft filtered light — it is all uniquely Washington in a way that you do not fully appreciate until you know you are leaving it.

Klahowya Trails in May delivered exactly that. The forest paths were deeply green with all the plants fully in season, the overcast sky kept the light bright and even without any harsh shadows, and the whole location had that quiet, lush Pacific Northwest energy that is genuinely hard to find anywhere else in the country.

We spent most of the session on the paths through the forest, which gave us that immersive tree canopy feel with green wrapping around on all sides. The forest path shots have a different quality from beach or field sessions — more intimate, more textured, with the trail drawing the eye naturally through the frame. We also moved out to the main road for some shots that opened things up and gave the gallery a different feel from the enclosed forest sections.

Ash wore a light purple tank top with black jeans, and it was a really natural choice for this setting. The soft purple sat beautifully alongside the soft greens and browns of the forest without competing with them, and the black grounded the look and kept it feeling put together. It is the kind of outfit that photographs well in a forest without ever looking like it was chosen specifically for a forest, which is always the goal.

This was actually Ash's second session with me — she came out earlier in May for a cap and gown session at Point No Point and loved it enough to book a second one. Check out her cap and gown session here. It was really special getting to do both with her before she heads east.
